Providing 20 degrees of rearward arc compliance without decoupling the rear end of the bike. Future Shock technology is a piston in the head tube with 20mm of travel, developed to bring drastic performance improvements, namely in the vertical compliance department. Moving focus away from fork splay towards vertical compliance led to major improvements to smoothness, speed, fatigue reduction and comfort in one fell swoop. SRAM Red eTap 11-speed shifters provide a glimpse into the future of shifting, and double as brake levers for the SRAM Red hydraulic disc brakes. Future Shock – Not all compliance is created Equal When it comes to compliance, you go two ways – Splay or Axial compliance. The Roubaix takes a new approach, providing a smoother ride via a suspension unit above the head tube. The Future Shock features up to 20mm of travel, and it’s positioned above the head tube in order to move in a vertical path. So when the front wheel encounters rough terrain, the bike moves up towards your hands and preserves your forward momentum without slowing you down. Another key factor is that, because the Future Shock is positioned above the stem, the bike’s wheels are held together rigidly by the frame. In other words, because the wheelbase isn’t changing throughout the suspension’s travel, like with traditional systems, you get the added benefit of extremely predictable handling.
